Budgeting Software Review -for- YNAB:
You Need A Budget
|
OVERVIEW You Need A Budget (YNAB) is by far the best personal budgeting software in its class. One of the most beneficial features of YNAB is that, from the outset, YNAB’s primary goals is to help you to move toward a debt-free life by helping you build a financial buffer of income. The goal of of this buffer is to enable you to stop living “paycheck-to-paycheck”. THIS IS MAJOR FOR YOU! If this was the only goal that you achieved with YNAB … it could be enough to put you on a path to financial solvency. But YNAB will help you go much further than that. In fact, YNAB it built on four rules that really set the software apart. These four rules are built right into the software, so you don’t even really have to think about it. Rule 1: Give Every Dollar a Job. You make sure you assign every dollar you make a “job”. For example. if you plan to spend $50 on eating out, then you will put $50 into that category. Similarly, if you owe $100/mo on your credit card statements, you assign $100 of your income to that category. You do this until you assign every last penny you earn to some category that you have created. With YNAB, you will always be looking forward, while still tracking everything that already happened. Rule 2: Save for a Rainy Day. Remember that car repair that threw you off budget before? Well, this rule helps with that because you will be planning for it ahead of time. So, instead of scrambling to find the $600 for car repair out of nowhere, you just use the pre-budgeted funds to cover the unexpected car repair.
